Enhancing Parliament.TV with Camera Corps Qx Cameras

The Houses of Parliament in London, an iconic symbol of British democracy, recently underwent an upgrade to its broadcast camera system. The goal was to enhance the viewer experience on Parliament.TV while maintaining the historical integrity of the chamber. Camera Corps, a leading provider of remote broadcast cameras, played a pivotal role in this transformation.
The Qx Solution: Customization and Versatility
The Camera Corps Qx cameras were the natural choice for this project, mainly based on the following criteria:-
- Customization: Unlike other manufacturers, Camera Corps offers tailored solutions, including customized remote cameras. The Qx family can be customized to meet specific requirements. In the case of the Houses of Parliament, this flexibility was crucial. The cameras were painted gold and styled to match the building’s grandeur, making them seamlessly blend into their historic surroundings.
- Versatility: The Qx cameras are highly versatile. Given their form factor, they can be discreetly mounted and remotely operated, ensuring they don’t disrupt the chamber’s significant proceedings. Their compact and stylish design allows them to remain inconspicuous while capturing high-quality footage. For a camera of its size, the Qx gives unmatched broadcast quality video and integrates seamlessly into their existing camera set-up as part of a wider upgrade, requiring only the use of a single cable for operation.
- Support: For Camera Corps, this is not a commodity sell of a camera. This is based on a longer-term relationship developed over many years. Following a successful consultation and evaluation, the decision was made to upgrade with customization that can be offered for this unique broadcasting environment.
The Upgrade Process
The upgrade involved replacing two existing cameras with the latest generation of Qx models. Additionally, new Camera Corps CCL RCPs (Remote Control Panels) were installed in the gallery with the following components:
- Qx Cameras: These state-of-the-art cameras deliver full HD output and superb imaging quality, especially given their small size. Their advanced camera module and design ensure optimal performance. The spherical shape and compact dimensions make them easy to mount and conceal from other cameras when they appear in shot.
- CCL RCPs: The Remote Control Panels allow operators to adjust camera settings remotely. This feature is essential for maintaining a non-obtrusive presence in the historic chamber.
Reliability and Continuity
The original Camera Corps Qx cameras were installed in 2015. The transition from the latest generation of Qx to the latest Qx version was seamless. It should noted that the original Qx live broadcast cameras faithfully served Parliament.TV for eight years, operating 24/7. Their reliability was unmatched. The new Qx cameras are expected to continue this legacy, providing uninterrupted coverage of parliamentary proceedings.
By choosing Camera Corps’ Qx solution, the Houses of Parliament ensure that viewers worldwide can witness history unfold in the heart of British democracy. For more information about the Qx cameras, please visit the Camera Corps website.
